The Tonkawas suffered grave losses in the 1850s, when their reservation in Young County on the Brazos River was attacked by white Texans. They were forced to move to a new reservation in Indian Territory (Oklahoma), where they were attacked and decimated again, this time by a group of Delawares, Shawnees, Wichitas, Caddos, and others.
